Opening of the Skipper Lounge at the Seaport
Wind Support NYC is thrilled to announce the grand opening of the Skipper Lounge at the Seaport on March 27th.
The Skipper Lounge, strategically located in Downtown Manhattan, is set to become the educational hub hosting events and panel discussions, shedding light on the critical state of our oceans.
Over two months, this program will set the stage for the Vendee Liberty: on May 24th, where a fleet of 30 IMOCAs will be sailing between the Statue of Liberty and Governors Island, creating a breathtaking spectacle for the guests hosted on Governors Island.
Early May, professional skippers will make New York their home after completing the single handed Transat CIC, leading up to the New York Vendée on May 29th, the last qualifying race before the Vendée Globe, the ultimate achievement in oceanic racing.
As true witnesses to the oceans, skippers will find at the Seaport a convivial and friendly space to share their passion and experience on the sea with New Yorkers.
Simultaneously, 2 modern sailing cargoes, Grain de Sail II and TOWT Anemos, will for the first time call New York to unload their holds. To celebrate such an achievement and recognize the contribution of professional sailing to the decarbonation of maritime transport, Wind Support will be hosting a Wind Support Summit at the Seaport on May 13 and 14.
Here’s a selection of the exciting events set to unfold in the Skipper Lounge:
– March 27th: Opening ceremony
– April 6th – 10th: Grain de Sail II docked at the Seaport, Pier 17
– April 28th: Live broadcast of the Transat CIC departure
– May 12th: Fete de la Bretagne, with a lecture on L’Isère, the pioneering boat that transported the Statue of Liberty from France and the Transat CIC prize ceremony
– May 13th and 14th: Wind Support Summit
